Which makes perfect sense since the purpose of the Getaway house is to disconnect from technology and escape the typical hustle and grind of city life. There are currently Getaway houses located outside of Atlanta, Austin + San Antonio, Boston, Raleigh +Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh + Cleveland, Portland, and Washington, DC. Overlook Mountain Trail is a shorter but moderate hike that is a half-hour drive from the Getaway outpost. It’s a 4.6-mile, out-and-back trail near Woodstock that takes around three hours to complete. For everyone who enjoys hiking, you must accomplish one of the 33 Catskill High Peaks during your getaway in the Catskills of New York.
Are other cabins around?
The best way to recharge your batteries can be to unplug them altogether, and the Getaway House provides the exact kind of accommodation perfect for a remote (but also comfortable) stay away from it all. Let’s take a look at the Getaway locations in both the Eastern and Western Catskills. So here’s where I warn you against booking a Getaway with someone you aren’t totally feeling the communication vibes with.
What’s Not in the Cabin? (I.e. What to Pack!)
Because of the secluded nature of our outposts, cell phone service may be a little spottier than normal. You may not get any reception at all—if this is the case, embrace the opportunity to unplug and relax. Each of the cabins is equipped with a landline for calls to the Getaway team or to 911 in case of emergency. At every Outpost, you’ll find at least one scenic nature trail, a short, easy hike on Getaway property in case you want to go for a quick stroll without hopping in your car to drive to a trailhead. I visited the Getaway Outpost located near Los Angeles, just outside of Big Bear. This location is nestled high up in the San Bernardino Mountains and surrounded by giant pine trees everywhere you look.

Which Catskills location is better?
Items are priced under $10 each and they are billed to your tab after check-out. Getaway houses have either one Queen size bed or two Queen beds, usually lofted. The beds are next to a giant picture window so you feel like you are sleeping in the woods, without the bugs. 😉 We couldn’t get enough of the fabulous view into the forest. We delighted in the shadows of the leaves dancing on the wall while sipping hot tea and snuggling in bed.
From skiing to snowboarding to tubing, there is something for all to enjoy at this ski resort. A great place to stop is at the Catskill Mountain Country Store to enjoy an incredible creamy hot chocolate or a baked good. When it comes to check-out, you must pack all your belongings and leave everything from the cabin the way it was before you arrive.

It’s about a 20-minute drive from the famous Kaaterskill Falls, which has a hiking trail that was snowed over when we visited in early March. We liked the first stay so much that I booked two more nights at the Western Catskills location in October 2020 when they announced that one’s opening with an intro price of $150 per night. This is where tiny-house campground company, Getaway House, recently opened its second New York location. I’m the fun and whimsical blogger behind Brown Eyed Flower Child. Situated a little south of New York’s Getaway House is the Hudson Valley and this area is known for its wineries! Whether you’re looking to do a day trip to the Hudson Valley wineries or vineyards or visit one on your way to and from the Catskills, you will not be disappointed by the selection of wines these venues offer.
Honest Four Seasons Hotel Seattle Review
The hike offered beautiful views along the way and a breathtaking overlook where we saw a bald eagle soaring overhead. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks because the hike certainly worked up our appetites. If you’re into hiking, we recommend stopping to see Kaaterskill Falls. There are different hikes you can take, but the hike to the waterfall is short. You can hike to 3 different outlooks, and we recommend seeing each one as the view is very different from each perspective. Be prepared to go up and down steep steps, and you will get wet at the mid-level overlook.
But what we could see—our private picnic table, chairs, and fire pit out back, a trickling stream beyond that, and endless forest beyond that—was so impressively peaceful. They will confirm availability and make sure one is reserved for you, if available. The accessible cables have a short ramp that goes into the cabin; the bathroom is larger, includes grab bars, and a barrier-free shower. The website also notes that the sleeping, dining, and cooking areas are easily navigable. There are two Getaway locations outside of New York City. Both are in the Catskills, which is about two hours from NYC by car.

It’s no 5-star hotel, but honestly, that’s what makes it so refreshing. Getaway destinations can offer much more than a destination. It lets one maintain a distance from the hustle bustles, busy work schedules, and relentless demands of city life.
There is storage space for luggage under the bench next to the bed. We could fit our bags underneath so it never felt too cluttered. Each cabin also has a lantern, a cell phone lock box, a shelf full of books, and a deck of cards.
So much so that in the summer of 2015, Jon and his college buddy Pete Davis launched Getaway. It is located in Roscoe, New York, and is the second getaway outpost in Catskills. Full of outdoor activities, it makes a great escape from New York for short weekend trips and weeklong holidays as well. That’s the kind of escape that Jon Staff and Pete Davis had in mind when they launched the company Getaway in the summer of 2015. Getaway builds tiny houses and places them on rural land an hour or two outside of major cities.
So to me, The Getaway House was a nice little happy medium with just the right amount of amenities provided, while still remaining authentically rustic and detached. But, while tiny homes and glamping are incredibly trendy and popular, they aren’t for everyone. In both of my experiences staying in a Getaway House – in two different parts of the country – I felt incredibly safe. Cabin prices vary by location, day of the week, and seasonality, but expect rates to generally fall between ~$129-$299/night.
Stop for some fresh air and a view of the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse, or take the trail to Esopus Meadows Preserve for more hiking and river views. Road Trip Curiosities Start to disconnect from your daily life and explore something new before you even reach your tiny home by visiting these destinations along the way. This hike is short, though it is also steep and can get rocky.
